I love working with young people; they haven’t carried their burdens as long as adults, and most can continue their life journey more equipped after counselling, thus preventing mental health issues later in life. I have over twenty years of experience with children and young people, having worked as a registered child minder and in a senior school both pastorally and as a volunteer counsellor.
I have said 11+ as some young people find it difficult to make the transition from Juniors to Seniors; and talking things through with someone completely separate from home and school life can be beneficial.
School/College/University life can be an unhappy experience for many; something they have to endure daily. Difficulties arise in many ways, from bullying, to infiltrating their lives continually through Social Media as well as for some, adjusting to leaving home. I help them to learn to manage their feelings & situations. They all have different needs and I help in many areas, such as assertiveness, confidence building, anger management, anxiety, panic, body dysmorphia, eating disorders, self harm and other unhealthy ways of being.
Other times, there may be things they are going through at home: parents/care givers not getting on/separating/divorcing, a family member becoming unwell or dying and exam stress.
